RADCLIFF, Ky. - Dozens gathered Wednesday night to honor the Kentucky State Trooper who was shot and killed in the line of duty.
The candlelight vigil was held in Radcliff, the hometown of Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder.
Ponder was shot and killed Sunday night after a traffic stop in Lyon County. KSP officials said he was fatally shot by 25-year-old Joseph Johnson-Shanks, of Missouri.
Johnson-Shanks was later killed during a standoff.
Ponder’s funeral was set for 11 a.m. Friday, at Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown.
A burial and interment will immediately follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Fort Knox. A visitation will be held the day before from 1-8 p.m. at Stithton Baptist Church in Radcliff.
The 31-year-old had been on the force since January 2015. Ponder was also a U.S. Navy veteran.
