A vigil has been planned to honor the 14-year-old who was fatally shot in Nashville over the weekend.
Officials with Metro Nashville Police said Clayton Gangji was shot and killed Saturday morning by 19-year-old Zachary Able.
Detectives said the pair and two others were sitting in a car around 6 a.m. when Able was handling a pistol that discharged. The bullet passed through Able's hand and struck Gangji.
Able took them both to an area hospital where Gangji died.
He became Metro Nashville's 56th victim of homicide this year – which is up more than 50 percent from this time last year.
Seven people have been killed in the past week, with all but one of those happening in the Hermitage precinct.
Gangji's candlelight vigil has been scheduled for 6 p.m. at Dupont-Hadley Middle School's athletic fields where he played football.
