Around one thousand people volunteered to spruce up Metro schools for Hands On Nashville Day.
Hickman Elementary School was one of 15 schools where volunteers helped out Saturday.
Hallways received a fresh coat of paint, trees were planted, and a new mural will now be on display.
Hands On Nashville Day has been making a difference in the community for more than 25 years, and school leaders said they appreciate all the extra help.
“A lot of times, when you are working in schools, you are in an island,” said Dr. Kim Fowler, school principal. “It is exciting when we know… the community supports us.”
