Almost a thousand people volunteered their time to "Stuff the Bus" for the United Way's back to school event.
Wednesday's annual "Stuff the Bus" event was held at Nissan Stadium.
Volunteers filled 10,000 backpacks with school supplies for some of the city's most at risk students.
"Each student will receive a pack that is full of a complete list of school supplies. So we match all of the items that are on the MNPS list; so that a child goes to school with everything they need, every tool for a great first day and a whole great year of education," said Mary Jo Wiggins.
The backpacks will be delivered on the first day of school which was set for next Monday, August 7.
United Way also planned to give backpacks to all of its family resource centers and 24 of their nonprofit partners.
