Voters in one of Davidson County's largest district will soon know who will be replacing former city councilman Loniel Greene, after Greene was forced to resign in January surrounding allegations he intimidated a domestic assault victim.
Three men are vying for the seat Greene vacated: Reuben Dockery, William Bug Mason and Nick Leonardo (Leonardo is a legal analyst for NewsChannel 5.
Since Greene resigned voters in District 1 haven't had their own voice on the council, one of the biggest concerns voters expressed while early voting on Monday.
"It was embarrassing, it was a black eye for us. It’s very crucial we get a council member to represent this district," says resident Bill Venson.
"If you’re talking about from the ground up absolutely this is important / whoever wins will be my voice for the community and that’s very important," his wife Brenda added.
Early voting will take place on August 4 with a possible run-off election taking place in September.
