SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WTVF) — A mom and dad who lost their incomes because of COVID-19 closures started Bag of Joy Bagel Company with their four kids.

"We ha[d] no way to make money," said Nick DeLorenzo.

Nick is a bartender and his wife Kailani is a newborn photographer.

"When this started it was definitely scary. There were things I wouldn't tell my kids... how I was feeling, but now it feels like we have a good fighting chance to make it through this," Nick said.

About a week ago, the DeLorenzo family got serious about a potential bagel business in Spring Hill.

"I studied bagels. I looked at all different styles and recipes," Nick said.

The parents even involved their young children.

"We got to show our kids we're not going to panic and be in fear. We're going to strategize and plan," Nick said.

In the first few days, the family made more than 600 bagels.

"I'll bake all night and then we'll release them all at once," said Kailani DeLorenzo. "They've been bought up in minutes!"

The family posts on Facebook when they have a batch available. They will deliver to Spring Hill and Thompson's Station. They also arrange for pickups on their front porch.

"We've made it so nobody has to touch anything but their bag and they're all labeled. They have to agree to that when they check out," Kailani said.

Each package of bagels comes with a hand-drawn picture from the DeLorenzo kids.

"Even though this started as something just for this [time], I think that it has grown beyond that and I think that this might be doing something we do for awhile," said Kailani.
