SPARTA, Tenn. (WTVF) — Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating the deadly shooting of a White County man by a deputy.

White County deputies were serving an arrest warrant for Charles Edward Williams at a home on the 1200 block of Woodland Trail in Sparta Friday afternoon.

Deputies entered the home to arrest Williams, but he left through the back door, according to the TBI's press release.

They say their initial investigation shows that deputies followed Williams to the back deck, and for reasons still under investigation, Williams ran toward the deputy. The deputy fired at Williams, hitting him. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
