Chief Dennis Young of the Winchester Police Department has passed away.
Officials with the police department released the information on Sunday saying they’re “in shock and at a loss on how to even cope with his passing.”
According to reports, the chief died of a heart attack Sunday morning in Chattanooga.
Reports stated Chief Young worked multiple decades leading statewide campaigns against drugs and working in the fight against opioid abuse.
Authorities said Chief Young was their leader, motivator, teacher, and friend.
They added they were going through photos and memories, and the main thing that stood out for them was his smile.
Chief Young was described as a father, husband, grandfather, football lover, and friend.
On social media, the department wrote:
“Our prayers go out to his family, which is also our family. We are here for you for anything you need.
Keep our department in your prayers as we grieve the passing of our brother from our family of blue.”
