NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Storm 5 Alert is issued for Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Light rain showers will continue tonight, however the main event remains the winter whiplash set for the weekend. An arctic cold front is taking aim for TN.
Ahead of the cold blast temperatures will climb into the low 60s Saturday with gusty wind and heavy downpours of rain totaling around 1"-3".
Late Saturday night cold air will rush in likely causing the rain to transition to a wintry mix during the overnight hours into Sunday then into all Snow Sunday morning.
Accumulations from this are expected to be quite low (if any). The heavy rain and warmer temperatures Saturday will cause most of it to melt initially, but as the cold air settles in Sunday it is possible for a dusting across the mid-state with totals close to an inch in the higher elevations Northeast of Nashville. This could lead to slick road conditions early Sunday.
Just how much moisture will be left over by the time the cold air arrives remains a question at this point so we'll have to fine tune the specifics of the wintry component of this forecast as the system gets closer.
Stay tuned to the forecast for the latest updates.
