NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro police say a woman died after she was hit while crossing Nolensville Pike, Monday evening.

The collision happened at 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of Lords Chapel Drive. Police said 56-year-old Ellen Abbott was walking with her husband from their home to a nearby restaurant across Nolensville Pike when she was struck.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Shannon Holt, told officers that he saw a person in the roadway as he topped a hill and braked in an attempt to avoid the collision. Abbott was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.

Police said officers are investigating whether speeding was a contributing factor. There is not a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Nolensville Pike and Lords Chapel Drive.

Investigators said Holt showed no signs of impairment. Potential charges against Holt are pending the completion of the investigation and consultation with the District Attorney’s Office.
