Police identify woman who died after being shot in the face in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — A woman who died after being shot in the face in Murfreesboro on Wednesday night has been identified.

Officers were called to Forrest Street around 9:45 p.m., in response to a report of a woman not breathing.

Police arrived and found that the victim, Carmen E. Simmons, 18, of Christiana had been shot in the face. She was taken to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital and pronounced dead.

“The victim died from a gunshot wound,” said police Detective Sgt. Tommy Massey. “However, the manner of death is still unknown.”

Detectives have interviewed possible witnesses and are still trying to figure out how Simmons sustained th gunshot wound.

The investigation remains ongoing.
