Officials have confirmed that a person died after an apparent Memorial Day drowning at Cedar Creek Campground in Wilson County.

Lieutenant Scott Moore with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said witnesses claimed a female went under after being hit by a wave but never resurfaced.

She and another person were apparently sitting on top of a buoy in the shallow end of the swim area when a large wave knocked them off.

Wilson County EMA and a sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene along Saundersville Road in Mt. Juliet to aid in the search.

The woman was later found and taken to a local hospital, where she has since died. Neither her age nor identity was known.
