NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Nashville Police detectives are searching for a woman they say killed her former roommate by running over her with her vehicle.

A murder warrant has been sworn out against 21-year-old Tessa Knapp. Police say she intentionally ran over 20-year-old Amanda Byers in the parking lot of the Rodeway Inn on Old Hickory Boulevard in Hermitage on Feb. 1. Byers died from her injuries Feb. 5.

Before her death police say Byers told them the incident was intentional and happened shortly after Knapp stole her money and other belongings.

Officials say surveillance video shows a woman, alleged to have been Knapp, run to a vehicle in the motel parking lot. Byers can be seen following her and banging on the side of the car. Witnesses say she was yelling for Knapp to stop.

Byers can then be seen trying to block the car, but she was knocked down and run over by the front driver’s side tire. The vehicle stopped for a moment with Byers under the car before the driver rolled over her again with the rear tire.

Police say Knapp is transient and is known to stay in area motels. Anyone seeing her or knowing her whereabouts is asked to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
