NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Two women are warning late-night hospitality industry workers to be careful when walking home or heading to their vehicle after they were maced and robbed in downtown Nashville.
The incident happened overnight on Tuesday around 2:40 a.m. between Broadway and Demonbreun Street near John Seigenthaler Pedstrian Bridge.
"The girl started fighting with me with my bag. I kind of put up a fight, she couldn't get my bag so he came up behind me, they maced both of us and just kind of shot off," Lauren Wenberg said.
Wenberg said she and her friend had just left Kid Rock's Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock & Roll Steakhouse when a man and woman stopped them and asked for cigarettes. That's when the two women were maced and robbed.
"It was terrifying, like I said I walk that street everyday," Wenberg said. She has worked at Broadway Brewhouse for the last eight years and has never encountered an incident like this in the past.
Wenberg's friend wants to warn other late-night hospitality workers to be vigilant.
"Be with people, if you have security let security walk with you. Don't be alone ever. I mean I wasn't even alone, I was with another female. I wish I had something on me. I wish I had mace. I think the best thing to do is be in a well lit area," Taylor Kavanagh said.
Kavanagh said another friend contacted her saying possibly the couple had asked for cigarettes late the following night too near 5th Avenue.
"The outpouring of love I have had from my industry family has been absolutely incredible," Kavanagh said.
Both women hope the suspects are either caught soon or police officers patrol the area more frequently late at night.
