NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Woodbury's former police chief could be headed to prison after pleading guilty Monday to stealing federal grant funds.

Kevin Mooneyham admitted in court that he submitted fraudulent timesheets for more than 800 hours of overtime that he did not work.

The overtime cost the department more than $28,000. The funds came from a federal grant by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to be used for DUI enforcement.

Mooneyham admitted during Monday’s plea hearing that he told other Woodbury officers federally-funded overtime was not available and instead submitted timesheets on his behalf. He then told a Woodbury official he had received a large part of the federally-funded overtime pay because no other officers were will to work it.  In fact, many officers had expressed an interest.

The 47-year-old could spend up to ten years in prison, and faces up to a quarter of a million dollar fine.

He is set to be sentenced October 19th. .
