Construction on a multimillion-dollar, interchange improvement project has gotten underway on Interstate 24 in Antioch.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said crews are working on a new, diverging diamond interchange at the Hickory Hollow Parkway exit.

The interchange will have a crisscross design to allow for high-volume traffic. The project is expected to cost more than $30 million.

The current exit was built in the 1970s to help with congestion from Hickory Hollow Mall.

This was the exit which was originally planned to accommodate the IKEA shopping center project, but that project has been put on hold.

Construction isn’t expected to be completed until the Spring of 2021.
