PLEASANT VIEW, Tenn. - Burglars broke into Sycamore High School twice in three weeks. The work of the Cheatham County school resource officers led to the arrests in those crimes.
Three young men broke into the school on August 9, and then again on August 23. During the last break-in, security cameras captured images of the suspects.
The suspects are former students, so they tried to hide their identities from security cameras.
"The subject not wearing a shirt, wearing a motorcycle helmet to conceal his identity," said Lt. Shannon Heflin from the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said the suspects stole items such as basketballs, volleyballs, clothing, shoes, food, a ceremonial shovel, and a laptop from the school.
School resources officers Chris Gilmore, and Tony Pierce, started an investigation into burglaries.
"The SRO that originally responded to the called pulled out his fingerprint kit, started taking fingerprints, dusted for the shoe prints, had those come out," Heflin explained.
The officers had photos taken from the surveillance images and showed them to employees at the school.
"One of the coaches recalled one of the scars, on one of the students that he used to coach and stated it had to be him, he had the same type of build," Heflin said.
Officers then went to the home of the suspect identified by the coach and stated they could see, in clear sight, several of the stolen items. After getting permission to go inside the home, the officers found more stolen items.
Former students, 21-year-old Chase Sherman, 19-year-old William Daniel, and a 17-year old are said to have confessed to the crimes, and explained why they committed them.
"That after a night of drinking they got bored, felt like it would be something fun to do, so they went and broke into the school," according to Heflin.
Investigators also found several of the stolen items discarded in a near-by recycling center.
