MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WTVF) — A World War II veteran from Tennessee and his long-lost love reunited after being separated for more than 70 years.

They say true love stands the test of time, but there are few examples that have lasted as long as this.

D-Day veteran K.T.Robbins met a young woman named Jeannie Ganyae during his time in France. He was later shipped out but never returned.

After the war, Robbins went home to Memphis, where he married and bought a hardware store, CBS affiliate WREG reports.

“We had a good life together," Robbins told WREG. "We were married 70 years, but this other thing was still in my heart."

A group called Forever Young Veterans heard about Robbins' story and wanted to help get him back to France for D-Day – and to find Jeannie.

Earlier this month, the pair got to spend time together at the nursing home where she now lives.

Turns out, they've loved each other for all this time.
