NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It was not the first time someone had tried to cut Andrew Vazquez off on his way home from work but this young father of two never imagined a simple lane change on the highway, would end up with him being shot and nearly killed.

The 28-year-old was on I-24 headed east on Thursday night when a driver apparently tried to cut him off. The incident quickly escalated and suddenly Vazquez turned to his right to see the unknown driver of an Audi pull out a gun and start firing.

Vazquez was on his way to his young daughter's band recital.

"What was going through these people’s heads when they decided, ‘I’m going to take my gun out and possibly kill this man?' What goes through your head?" his sister Brandi said sitting outside of the emergency room where Vazquez is recovering.

Hit multiple times, Vazquez was rushed to the hospital. His injuries are severe but doctors expect him to recover.

"They were really wanting to hurt my brother, they were wanting to kill him," his sister added.

According to police, the victim says the shooter was a woman in her 20s, driving a black, four-door Audi. Anyone with information about her was asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
