ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WTVF) — A youth football team celebrated the end of their season with a banquet, after a roller coaster year.
"The journey man…the journey man..it was rough but we made it," said Coach Quincy Mitchell.
The Antioch Jets were banned from their home field after a shooting that didn't involve the team. The CCC Antioch Jets made it all the way to the championship game but it wasn’t always clear they’d even get a chance to play this last season.
Coach Quincy Mitchell says the Antioch jets were banned from playing at Antioch High School after there was a shooting at a youth football tournament. Detectives identified and charged 30-year-old Eric Caruthers Junior in the shooting.
"These kids worked hard all summer and had no where to go," said Mitchell.
No where to go until Brian Kemp picked up the phone.
"They were in a tough spot and parents and coaches pulled together, they showed a lot of class and patience." said Brian Kemp with Youth Incorporated.
They were able to have their home games at Youth Incorporated in La Vergne. The team consists of boys who are 7 to 9 years old.
