Saint Augustine once famously wrote: “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” These words echo so true for those of us who love to travel, those of who are always seeking some new distant shore somewhere. Those of us who are utterly broke yet dying for a vacation. Sound familiar?
Well, Business Insiderhas helpfully compiled a list of the cheapest places to travel by month of the year. So, whether you are craving sandy shores or snowy mountains, make sure you are traveling during the time of year when you will get the most bang for your buck.
No matter when you’re planning to travel, there’s bound to be a city on your wish list that’s a little cheaper that time of year!
January
The beginning of the year is the best time of the year to hit Los Angeles, as hotels are considerably marked down. So you can escape the “holidays are over” blues by seeing the lifestyles of the rich and the famous. Perfect!
February
February boasts cheap rates in Honolulu, including a 40 percent dip in hotel prices. Romantic V-day getaway? We can dream!
March
Who isn’t dying to get away by the time March rolls around? Will winter ever end?? March offers low prices in Flagstaff, Arizona. The Southwest offers so many sights, but with the Grand Canyon right nearby, this would be the ideal time to see one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in our nation.
April
April is wonderful in Chicago. Nightly rates at hotels hit annual lows, and the weather is just starting to warm up. People are out and about, but yet it is not so crowded that you won’t be able to enjoy all the sightseeing adventures.
May
Early spring is the perfect time to enjoy Fort Lauderdale. It’s after the Spring Break rush but before the summer vacation rush.
June
While Austin gets a lot of attention these days (especially from young people), San Antonio is becoming quite hip, and it offers tons of fun activities for families as well. Plan a trip for June when prices are best.
July
Feeling extra patriotic? July will provide low prices in Boston, which is perfect what with the Fourth of July and the Boston Tea Party Massacre! Get your America on!
August
The last week of August is a good time to visit New York City, as prices are at a record low. Yes, it will be hot and humid, but with kids returning to school, you won’t be as crowded when you hit the Broadway matinees!
September
September is a smart time to visit Orlando. With schools around the country back in session in, visiting Disney is ideal during this time. (Hey, you don’t learn anything in fifth grade anyway, do you?)
October
October is a budget-friendly time to visit NOLA, baby! Halloween in New Orleans? It’s so much cooler than Mardi Gras! And the last week of October just so happens to be the cheapest time of the year to visit this Southern belle.
November
November is a cheap time to visit San Francisco…well, as cheap as one can get in notoriously expensive city by the bay!
December
Las Vegas hotels are discounted during December, so why not go be naughty on the Strip and see if Santa still brings you something good?
