It's been nearly 50 years since Fred Rogers threw on a cardigan sweater and became known to the majority of us as "Mister Rogers."

His PBS series, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” began airing in 1968. The U.S. Postal Service will be honoring Mister Rogers with his very own postage stamp.

The announcement came along with other stamp designs for 2018featuring vanguards such as singer Lena Horne, astronaut Sally Ride and musician John Lennon.

On the postage stamp to debut next year, Rogers wears one of his iconic cardigans while smiling alongside King Friday XIII, ruler of the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Remember him?

Rogers passed away in 2003and the final episode of the show taped back in 2000, but his memory still lives on amongst the generations of kids who watched him on TV. As the host of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” Rogers promoted a friendly, neighborly spirit and posed thought-provoking questions to inspire children all across America.

And of course, who could forget the theme song?

Clearly, his show had an impact. Fans are flooding Twitter with kind messages, letting the U.S. Postal Service know that they approve of this decision because many feel the honor is well-deserved.

“So glad Mister Rogers is finally being honored like this,” one tweet read.

“It’s about time,” another Twitter user chimed in!

Another tweeted that now that Mister Rogers will have his own stamp, “life is complete.”

We have a feeling Mister Rogers would approve of the kind gesture of sending a hand-written letter. And when 2018 rolls around, you’ll be able to spread goodwill to friends near and far, with a little help from Rogers himself.

There’s even more exciting news Mister Rogers news: a documentary called “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” about his life and his iconic TV show will come to theaters in June 2018. What a great way to honor his legacy!
