The Chicago Bears have planned to release former Vanderbilt University quarterback Jay Cutler, according to multiple reports.

CBS Sports reported that Cutler would be informed of his release on Thursday.

The 33-year-old veteran quarterback has been with the Bears since 2009 after asking for a trade from the Denver Broncos.

Reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicated he could end up at the New York Jets.

Vanderbilt went 11-35 with Cutler at QB, where he set a school record for touchdowns and rushing yards by a freshman in 2002.
