EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WTVF) — Fourpeat complete. Darby Maggard and Jenny Roy added yet another chapter to their remarkable careers and Belmont continued its ascension as one of college basketball’s best mid-major programs with a 59-53 win over UT Martin Saturday for a fourth straight OVC Tournament title.

Maggard, the OVC Player of the Year, and Roy, the tournament’s MVP have won three regular season championships and now four straight conference tournament titles.

The duo scored five straight points late in the third quarter to help Belmont grab a 42-35 lead against UT Martin. Maggard, who was held to just six points, hit a 30-foot three with the shot clock winding down. Then Roy drove baseline for a basket and the foul as the Bruins took control.

The Skyhawks got within as close as three in the fourth quarter, but Ellie Harmeyer scored a team-high 16 as Belmont held on for yet another title.

Maggard and Harmeyer joined Roy on the OVC All-Tournament team.

Belmont will head to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in its history, and will look to make history. The Bruins have never won a tournament game in men’s or women’s basketball. Head Coach Bart Brooks says he’s challenged his players all year to make their make by doing something they’ve never done before.

It’s about all that’s left to do for Maggard and Roy to cap their incredible college careers.
