Hayes Leads Riverdale To Repeat Title In Class AAA Girls

Anastasia Hayes scored 33 points in leading Riverdale to its second straight Class AAA title with a 66-59 win over Memphis Central on Saturday.

Hayes, the tournament MVP, hit 10 of 15 from the field and 13 of 17 from the foul line for Riverdale (34-0), ranked No. 1 nationally by USA Today.

Riverdale extended its win streak to 42 games, giving the Murfreesboro powerhouse its sixth state championship.

Hayes, a point guard, is a Miss Basketball and a Tennessee signee.

Memphis Central (30-7) narrowed the gap to 57-55 with 2:07 left before Riverdale closed with a 9-4 spurt, scoring all of its points at the foul line.

Riverdale's Brinae Alexander grabbed 16 rebounds and scored nine points. Teammate Amanda Whittington added 11 points.

Jireh Washington led Central with 20 points, including a 5-of-6 showing from 3-point range.

Teammate Johne' Stewart fouled out with 17 points and Brianna Cooks added 14 for Central, which earned its second runner-up finish.

Riverdale also beat Central in the 2016 and 2013 semifinals.
