Number 15-seed Middle Tennessee State University have beat the number two seed Michigan State University 90-81 in the first round of the Men's NCAA Tournament.

The Blue Raiders started the game with a 15-2 lead, and led the entire game.

They have become the eighth 15-seed to beat a 2-seed in NCAA Tournament history. The last team was Florida Gulf Coast beating Georgetown 78-68 in 2013.

FGCU went on to become the only 15-seed to ever win in the second round and advance to the sweet 16.

Students held multiple watch parties on campus and throughout Murfreesboro.

"We have believed since the beginning of the season. We've believed in both team, men and women, we fought hard - our hahstag, our saying is "true blue." We have fought with that kind of intensity and that kind of pride and it's paid off," said Andrew Oppmann, MTSU Spokesman.

And it wasn't just a party in Murfreesboro. University officials said they've had one billion mentions about the game on the social media accounts as people across the country saw the upset.

NewsChannel 5 caught up with some football players who watched the victory play out during a team meeting.

"I feel like it was a big win for them, and the whole community. Everybody was together just waiting for them to win. We were all pumped in the locker room just watching the games on our phone," said Darius Harris, MTSU linebacker. "We were actually in a meeting checking on our phone, everyone asking what the score is - so good job, congratulations on the middle tennessee basketball team for a good win today."

MTSU will next play Syracuse. The 10-seed upset 7-seed Dayton.
