Quarterback Marcus Mariota will not play in the Tennessee Titans’ final game of the season, coaches have confirmed.
Mariota was injured in the Titans' December 20th loss to the New England Patriots.
He left the game with an apparent knee injury after being sacked with 10 minutes left in the second quarter. He was also ruled out against the Houston Texans the following week.
In a Tweet, the team quoted interim head coach Mike Mularkey as saying, “Marcus wants to play, but we have to be smart about it. As an organization, we decided it was best to keep him out.”
The NFL previously reported that Zach Mettenberger would take Mariota's place for the rest of the season.
Right now, the Titans are projected to have one of the first picks of the NFL Draft after going 3-12 so far this season.
