Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularky said during a press conference that he would take care of any fines linebacker Avery Williamson may face for his 9/11 custom cleats.
The topic came up when addressing questions about the handful of players that held their fists in the air after the national anthem in support of the recent NFL protest.
Mularkey said he supports his players, and wants them to do whatever they think is right – whether that is by kneeling during the national anthem or by wearing customized cleats.
The linebacker could be fined for violating the NFL uniform code. The navy blue cleats were covered in white stars and red strips with the words "never forget" written on the back.
He said he told Williamson that he would have been disappointed if he hadn’t have worn the shoes because it was a good thing.
When asked, what he thought about a possible fine, Mularkey said he would make sure to take care of it.
