The official start of fall is more than a week away, but for half the country, this weekend will feel like it's already arrived.
A strong cold front spent the week sweeping across the eastern half of the country and ushering in some unseasonably cool air.
Nearly every state from Texas to Nebraska to the East Coast will feel more like October rather than the first half of September.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will still have a firm grasp on summer weather with some pretty toasty temperatures stretching from the Rockies to the West Coast.
Whether you want this weekend's pattern to stick around or leave as soon as possible, Mother Nature has her own plans, and it appears she's restless.
Long-term forecast models have this pattern only lasting into the very beginning of next week.
The entire pattern is expected to flip again by Tuesday or Wednesday.
It also looks like the warmth in the East and the cooler air in the West will stay that way past the first day of Fall.
Keep in mind, though, it's that time of year when any part of the country can expect big temperature swings from day to day. All it takes is a fast-moving cold front or the jet stream sliding a little farther south to suddenly change the weather.
