A portion of Interstate 24 in Davidson County has been scheduled to be closed over the weekend.

The closure was planned on Interstate 24 East between Briley Parkway and Interstate 65 starting at 9 p.m. Friday and lasting through 12 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said all traffic headed eastbound would be detoured at Exit 18B -- Briley Parkway -- and redirected to Interstate 65 on the north side of the Interstate 24 junction.

The closure was dependent upon the weather, and officials said it would be rescheduled if inclement weather occurred.

All drivers have been asked to plan ahead and seek alternate routes.

All work being done in that area during the closure is part of the widening project that will expand Interstate 65 from six to ten lanes from Trinity Lane to Dickerson Pike.

Authorities also reminded drivers the speed limit in the work zone has been set at 45 mph.

Crews have been expected to complete the $50 million project in May.
