ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- Six New Mexico teens have been facing murder charges after authorities said one of them gunned down a 60-year-old man in his driveway while the group was out wandering through a neighborhood, breaking into cars and homes.
Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden said Friday during a news conference that one of the teens has confessed but that the investigation was ongoing.
The teens arrested Thursday ranged in age from 14 to 17 years old.
Arrest warrant affidavits said they had been stealing from several cars and homes in a neighborhood on the city's northeast side on June 26 before one of them shot and killed Steve Gerecke.
Officers found Gerecke dead in his driveway with multiple gunshot wounds.
His family flanked the chief during the news conference.
