FRANKLIN, Tenn. – It was an unusual rescue in Franklin after a dog fell down a steep embankment into the Harpeth River.

The 13-year-old Border Collie goes by "Scratch," and he was on a walk with his owner at Pinkerton Park when he fell down the 15-foot embankment into the river.

It was really steep on both sides, and Scratch just couldn't make it out.

A Franklin police officer was the first to get there, and while trying to help, the ground gave way and the officer slid down the embankment becoming stuck as well!

Franklin Firefighters arrived next, and they were able to help the officer get back on dry ground while the Swift Water Rescue Team got Scratch to safety.

The fire chief said it was all over in less than 30 minutes.
