NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NewsChannel 5 took a closer look at the "bridges to nowhere" those with the Tennessee Department of Transportation have been building over on the South Loop.
Those unfinished bridges have been part of the Fast Fix 8 project, a plan to replace or repair eight bridges along Interstate 40 downtown.
The bridges have mostly been assembled off-site before they'll be moved and installed at their final location.
The whole process was set to require 13 weekend road closures over the next year, which soundes like a lot, but TDOT officials said it's quicker and more convenient for drivers than building the bridges in place.
"We've done this before,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “We're now kind of understanding what needs to be done, and we just ask for patience on those particular weekends."
The first closure has been scheduled to start Friday, July 24.
