NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was hospitalized after being shot multiple times when an argument got out of hand.
Emergency dispatchers got a call around 12:30 a.m. Friday about a person being shot and laying on the ground on the street near several businesses.
When officers responded to the scene near Buchanan Street and 16th Avenue in north Nashville, they found the victim with five gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with what they were initially calling life-threatening injuries. His condition has since improved and officials said they expected him to recover.
Investigators from the Metro Nashville Police Department spent several hours at the scene overnight, collecting evidence and talking to witnesses.
Officials identified the victim as 62-year-old Cecil Grissette from Madison.
A female witnesse told police she and Grissette were planning to meet another person to buy drugs when a group of men approached and demanded they buy drugs through them.

Police were actively searching for the shooter. He was described by police as a man with dreadlocks, 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a brown jacket at the time.
