LA VERGNE, Tenn. – A Rutherford County church has been destroyed after a massive fire tore through the building Thursday night.
Crews were called to the church on Waldron Road in La Vergne around 9 p.m.
Firefighters from the La Vergne and Smyrna Fire Departments responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Intense flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the church. Heavy smoke was visible some three miles away from Interstate 24.
The building was said to be a total loss.
Officials with the La Vergne Police Department added the church is known for its involvement in the community and the loss of its building would affect many people.
The offices of Life of Victory International Christian Ministries, along with the sanctuary which serves Faith Life, Amazing Grace Fellowship and Iglesia De Dios were destroyed.
