GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) - The Great Smoky Mountains National Park's Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is back open after a 6-month closure.
According to the park, the road was closed last November so that crews could replace eight bridges that had reached the end of their usable service.
The 5.5-mile, one-way motor trail allows visitors to experience the beauty of the mountains, including the spring wildflowers and the fall leaves. The road also provides access to several popular trails that lead to waterfalls and the summit of Mount Le Conte.
