SMYRNA, Tenn. - Authorities arrested 21-year-old Brittany Marie Wiest for the death of her infant son Wednesday. She's charged with felony murder, aggravated child neglect and abuse.
In April, Wiest's boyfriend, Michael Withers, called 911 after the couple found two-month-old Anakin unresponsive in their apartment.
Officers arrived and found the infant dead and extremely underweight. A toxicology report states Anakin died from starvation and dehydration. He was only 59 days old when he passed.
"Anakin was born as a small child, under six pounds and weighed under five when he passed away in just 60 days," Sgt. Rick Hall with Smyrna Police said. "We are asking the question, how could you ever do that? I think people find themselves in situations or in lifestyles that other things get neglected.”
On her Facebook page, Wiest lists herself as an adult entertainer. She has a two-year-old daughter, who is now in state custody, and she is 24-weeks pregnant with her third child.
Wiest is currently in custody at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. Hall said this is an open investigation and more charges could follow with other parties involved.
