NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Canine units for the Tennessee Highway Patrol have received special gear to help keep them safe in the line of duty.

THP’s eight canine units received the bullet and stab protective vests during a ceremony Thursday at the Trooper Training Center in Donelson.

The dogs serve the state of Tennessee on drug and patrol units or even by looking for cadavers. At any time, their lives could be in danger.

“It’s just a great service to Tennessee and the fact that this non-profit company has stepped up to afford them an extra layer of protection really speaks well for this company and how they care about law enforcement and how they care about public safety,” said Colonel Tracy Trott with the THP.

The donation was made possible by the group Vested Interest in K9's Inc., which is a nonprofit organization located in Massachusetts.
