White Castle, the bastion of mini burgers and a late-night haunt for many a famished barhopper, has plans to start serving its own beer.

Pennsylvania beer company Weyerbacher has disclosed plans to distribute an exclusive White Castle beer at the burger chain’s restaurants and in stores where frozen White Castle burgers are already available.

“We did a pilot brew for them, a kölsch that they loved, so that’s gonna be the first beer,” Weyerbacher Brewing Company chief operating officer Josh Lampe told Brewbound. “It goes well with burgers.”

This might be the Weyerbacher “Slider Beer-Pilot” (along with a “Crave Nation” beer) that recently showed up on beer rating site Untappd.

The slider beer got a mention on Weyerbacher’s Facebook page back in June, where it was described as “Light. Crushable. Slider beer, Kölsch at 5% ABV,” but with no mention of White Castle.

If you’re in one of the 13 states where there’s a White Castle, you might be able to take advantage of this new beer collaboration soon. But White Castle is remaining vague about details.

“As we prepare to celebrate our 100th birthday in 2021, we are in the midst of planning lots of fun initiatives and surprises,”  White Castle representatives told Fox Business Network and Food & Wine magazine. “It’s too early for us to comment on any specifics about how widely available a White Castle inspired beer might be in our restaurants, but we’re enjoying the creative process we’re working on right now in real-time.”

White Castle isn’t the first fast-food franchise to serve its own custom beer. Taco Bell and Blue Point Brewing Company released a Big City Bell Pilsner at some of Taco Bell’s New York City Cantina restaurants, following the success of a local beer at its Cantina location in Newport Beach, California.

Additionally, McDonald’s offers beer in some of its non-U.S. restaurants in places such as Germany, France, Greece, South Korea, Austria, Spain and Belgium. If you go to a BK Whopper Bar, which are high-end Burger Kings in Orlando, Miami and Las Vegas and other cities, you can get beer as well. Several other fast-food restaurant chains, such as Chipotle and Steak ‘n Shake, offer beer and alcoholic drinks, too, but these aren’t custom-made for the restaurants.

The White Castle beer is expected to be available at 400 locations and to be the first of several collaborative releases with Weyerbacher. It’s expected sometime in 2020.

What do you think about getting beer at a White Castle along with your sliders and fries? Does that sound appetizing to you?
