NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Between groceries, gas, and back-to-school expenses, your budget can take a hit if you're not prepared. But help is available.
The Nashville Financial Empowerment Center offers free one-on-one financial counseling to anyone who lives or works in Nashville, regardless of income.
It recently welcomed a new manager of financial empowerment.
"There are so many resources here that they can help you cover. From everything from truly creating a budget to our newest endeavor, which is legacy planning and building that will and everything in between," Ginny Burnett, Manager, Financial Empowerment, said.
Burnett said the center's services are not just for people facing a financial crisis. Many people may not realize how widely financial challenges affect the Nashville community.
"I think the biggest reality is it's affecting all of us. So many think there has to be a crisis moment to utilize a service like this, or that there's only a certain group of Nashvillians that are experiencing a challenging time, and that's just not the case," Burnett said.
A program of the Mayor's Office in partnership with United Way of Greater Nashville, the goal of the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center is to help people move from a state of instability to a state of empowerment with new savings habits, higher credit scores and lower debt burdens. Since opening its doors in 2013, the center has helped 11,890 clients reduce their debt by $39.6 million and increase their savings by $7.4 million.

Counseling is available in English and Spanish, with access to language and translation services in most languages.
