MILLERSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — An 11-year-old from Hendersonville is recovering after falling down a steep embankment.
Mason Isham was playing in the woods behind his grandma's house in Millersville when he fell nearly 100 feet down a ravine on Saturday.
"I had a plastic sword and tried to stick it in the dirt but it broke," Mason said. "I flipped and don't remember anything after that."
The Millersville Fire and Police Departments, Sumner County EMA and the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department showed up on scene and sprang into action.
"I was there talking to him trying to keep him calm when he was saying I want to take a nap," said Chris Isham, Mason's dad. "I kept saying no you have to stay awake."
After almost an hour, they were able to rescue Mason and he was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
He suffered a severe neck sprain, concussion, as well as, bruising and swelling around his lower spinal cord.
Even so, Mason is feeling grateful that the only thing that he truly lost is replaceable.
"The fall cut up my favorite pair of clothes," Mason said. "We are thankful for the firefighters, police, and emergency crews."
Mason was released from the hospital on Monday. His recovery is going well and he plans to return to school on Wednesday.
