7-year-old hands out lucky pennies to police

Posted

A Franklin County 7-year-old is handing out pennies to police. He wants officers in his community, and around the country, to have a little extra luck.

Kameryn Chebetar's mom said she hopes the officers will keep their penny and poem in their pocket.

Starr Chebetar said, "Every year we try to do something to give back and this year it was his turn to kind of make a choice and he said he wanted to do something for police."

Winchester Police Officers loved the gesture.

Kameron Bolin said, "There is so much bad and negativity... to shed a little positivity on us, makes us feel really good."

Kameryn and his mom have made hundreds of "pennies for police" notes.

Kameryn Chebetar said, "For luck, so they can get home safely."

Now, law enforcement agencies from all over the country have requested the lucky pennies.

Chebetar said, "Columbus County North Carolina Sheriff's Department, Golden Eagle Police Department in Illinois reached out..."

On Sunday, officers with the Winchester Police Department gave Kameryn a coin and a badge. Kameryn said he wants to be a police officer when he grows up.
