If you live in Antioch, you've passed through the intersection of Bell Road and Mt. View Road, and it's possible you've had a frustrating time.
"This is one of the worst intersections in our city," said Metro Council Member Jacobia Dowell.
It's an intersection that may have worked in years past. But isn't cutting it now.
"The Antioch area is one of the fastest-growing areas in our city," Dowell said.
The intersection is one of the most accident-prone in Nashville. Dowell drives through it every day and said she sees the crashes first-hand.
"It's usually one or two a couple times a week, sometimes more," she said.
But improvements are underway. Theintersection is one of 15 that are part of the mayor's Intersection Improvement Project. Mayor Barry announced the construction plan in April. It covers Bell Road at Mt View Road, along with several other big areas.
"We're one of the areas that have lagged behind with infrastructure improvement," Dowell said. "We've had the growth but we haven't had the infrastructure to accompany it."
Construction is one small step in the right direction, she said, with better cross walks, signals and turn lanes in the works. Many of the same improvements that are now in place at DB Todd Boulevard and Albion Street, one of the first intersections on the list.
Because while city leaders agree a mass transit plan is needed to solve transportation problems long-term, intersections play a role in getting you where you need to go right now.
"One of the things we can do is make improvements like this when were able to," Dowell said.
