NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Artists took the stage at Exit/In for a benefit concert to save the rock block on Saturday.

The music venue is on Elliston Place in an area known as "The Rock Block." Since 1971, it has been home to many long-time independently owned Nashville businesses where people from Jimmy Buffett to Johnny Cash have performed.

This special show with headliner "The Western Sons" hopes to raise money to save the area from becoming a possible victim of gentrification.

"This place is a huge part of rock and roll history so we want to help keep it up and running," said The Western Sons bandmember Garrett Carr.

Last year, the community defeated a rezoning request that would have allowed a 15-story hotel to be built where three historic apartment buildings sit.

But, as word has spread that another developer is trying to bring a hotel to the site, musicians and supporters have rallied around the cause.

There is also a petition to help save the Rock Block that that's already garnered over 6,000 signatures.
