The Burnette Chapel Church of Christ congregation was honored by Lipscomb University.
Minister Joey Spann accepted the Kopio Award Sunday night on behalf of the congregation at the university for the kickoff of its Summer Celebrations.
The Kopio Awards' name comes from a Greek word that is used to describe a person who labors to the point of utter exhaustion with the help and for the glory of God.
Less than nine months ago, that congregation was the scene of a mass shooting that killed one person.
