NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Charlie Daniels will be remembered for his music, but his legacy may be tied to his support of veterans causes.

In Middle Tennessee, Charlie co-founded the Journey Home Project, which matched donors with veterans groups.

At MTSU, Daniels and his wife supported a veterans center that now bears their names.

But his work with veterans isn't just limited to here in Middle Tennessee. We found he leant his signature voice to causes across the country.

"He never gives up and he’s always there fighting the fight for those who maybe don’t know how to fight the fight for themselves," said Alan Williams, Executive Director of the Task Force Dagger Foundation.

The Task Force Dagger Foundation helps veterans with wounds both seen and unseen. "You know they come back from overseas and they’re not quite sure what’s wrong. So we get to the root cause of the dysfunction and try to fix it there," he said.

Their organization got a big boost in 2013, when Journey Home Project featured them in a major Nashville fundraiser, hosted by Charlie Daniels. Williams says the famed country music singer's support only continued from there.

"He’s done videos for us that we’ve been able to post in support of Task Force Dagger Foundation," said Williams.

Williams says their organization feels a little flat without Charlie's influential voice, but in his honor, the mission continues. "We’re going to keep carrying that fight for him and continue on with his legacy with us," said Williams.
