NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Cheekwood is hosting Hiroshi Sato as it's 2020 Martin Shallenberger Artist-in-Residence.
Sato, a contemporary oil painter from San Francisco, is painting a scene inside Cheekwood Mansion.
"Normally people can only see from one side," Hiroshi Sato explained. "I'm painting the opposite side... the side most people never get to see."
Sato is painting a panoramic view of the drawing room in the historic mansion. Because the exhibit is roped off, the view he's showing is rarely seen.
"I think people enjoy it," he said of visitors who see him at work.
The Artist-in-Residence program brings out-of-town artists to Nashville to create site-specific works.
When he is done on January 31, Sato's oil paintings will be on display at Cheekwood. His largest work in the exhibit will be the 11' x 7' panorama.
