HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — After floodwaters destroyed two inline hockey rinks at Veterans Park in Hendersonville, some kids were left wondering if they would get to play this season.

After heavy winds and rain pounded Middle Tennessee, mud covered the rinks and tore up the tiles.

The community was devastated over the damage of the rinks.

The rinks were just newly resurfaced last year.

The community banded together to clean up the rinks, saving whatever materials they could to put together one temporary rink.

The community also partnered with local businesses, such as the NHL predators organization, to raise a few thousand dollars to go towards repairs.

They were able to hold their first game of the spring season Saturday. About 300 players signed up for this spring season.

"In these situations when bad things happen, there's always some bright spot. The community rallying around the league and families has been the biggest bright spot I've seen out of this," said Paul Hogg, board member.

Established in 2001, Hendersonville Inline Hockey Association is an in-line hockey league serving youth from ages 4 to 18.

Board members say this rink is only a temporary solution for the spring season. There are talks right now to possibly move the rinks to another location that is less prone to flooding, but its still too early to officially say what's next.
