NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — After battling kidney disease and being on dialysis for a couple of years, Carl Duke is expected to live a long, healthy life thanks to his wife, Brenda. Six months ago, Brenda went to get tested to see if she was a match, even though the chances were very slim.

"God works in mysterious ways," said Brittany Duke Jenkins, one of their daughters. "They've been married 28 years and they've always said they were soulmates. This match proves that even more."

Carl and Brenda went to Saint Thomas West Hospital to have surgery Tuesday morning and are both doing well. Brenda should be released by tomorrow and Carl is expected to be released by Saturday.

"She said it from the beginning, if she was a match, this is what she was going to do to live a long life with her soulmate," said Brittany.

The couple from Carthage, Tennessee have three daughters together.
