NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Nashville SC will soon play its first MLS game at Nissan Stadium. The team is hosting several events throughout the week to build up excitement.

On Saturday the team hosted a 5K and a kickoff crawl to celebrate Major League Soccer coming to Music City.

Fans packed AJ’s Good Time Bar and showed off their team spirit.

"We had season tickets last season and now we're excited to have MLS season tickets, so we’re excited for first game," said Rachel Usry.

It wasn’t the easiest journey getting here. Leading up to the first game, there was a lot of back and forth between the team and the city surrounding stadium construction. The stadium at the fairgrounds was initially set to open in time for the 2021 season, but had to be pushed back to 2022.

Regardless, the team and fans alike are still excited about what is ahead.

"We've been working on this for more than two years, well some of us, so we’re ready to go," said Ian Ayre, the CEO of Nashville SC.

Nashville SC will take on Atlanta United FC on Saturday, February 29 at 7 p.m. at Nissan Stadium.
